Remnants (2015), is an ongoing project of photographing the remains of burned printed media. I do not consider myself so much an artist, as a mere spectator; an instigator for this work, because there exists no way to control how the magazines will burn. Only the amount of material that is used, and the duration the magazine is allowed to burn, can be controlled. Magazines are a snapshot of American culture and yet with “Remnants” I have no political or cultural agenda, which is not unlike fire, that also has no bias or discrimination on what it transforms. Though there are Dada influences to this project (chance), it is also a cleansing process; letting the elements we’ve had control over for centuries take their place again in natural order.
